Lake Mburo

Lake Mburo National Park is the closet national park compared to all the national parks in Uganda covering a total area of 260 square kilometres. It’s named after a renown Lake Mburo that is located in the park. The park hosts a variety of animals that are not easily seen in other parts of Uganda such as zebras, impala, buffalos, hippos and crocodiles and for the birding enthusiasts this is close to paradise with over 313 bird species.

The lake along with the other 4 lakes within the park draw in hippo and crocodiles plus a number of water birds. These lakes offer great chances for the creation of various recreation activities including sport fishing, swimming as well as boat riding. Lake Mburo is documented as the finest place in the whole of Uganda where you can observe the huge eland antelopes, the sitatunga antelope which are limited to the interiors of the swamp. There are only 2 diurnal primates living in Lake Mburo NP; the olive baboon and the Vervet monkey.

Game Viewing

Lake Mburo is good for wild game viewing which gives you a chance to see the legendary biodiversity of this park. It hosts approximately 68 different mammal species and the prevalent mammals include: Zebras, jackals, Impalas, Hyenas, Buffaloes, leopard, Topis, Roan antelopes plus Elands.

Nature Walks

Tourists can choose to do Nature walks with in the park following the Nature trails through the various areas of the park as they admire nature and see fauna on foot. The Foot safaris are all guided by well-trained armed guides to ensure safety during the safari remember visitors are permitted to walk at their own slow pace.

 

Boat Trips

Boat trips are conducted on Lake Mburo, and during the trip a variety of animal plus plant species is visible. Examples include hippos plus crocodiles, in addition to birds including Cormorant,  Fish Eagle,  Black Crake, Pelicans plus Heron to mention a few.

 

Birding


This park hosts 313 different species of birds among which are the uncommon Shoebill stork, Yellow-throated Long claw, White-winged Warblers, Southern Red Bishop, Black-billed Barbet, Rufous chested Swallow , Crested Francolin, Brown Parrot, African-wattled Plover Rufous napped lark, Red necked Spur, Flappet larks, Emerald-spotted Wood Dove, Red necked spur fowl, Black Bellied Bustard, Coqui Francolin, Temminck’s Courser, Lilac-breasted Roller, common Quails, Trilling Cisticola, Greenwood Hoopoe, African-grey Hornbill, Nubian Woodpecker, Barefaced Go-away bird and Blue-napped Mouse bird, among several others. The surrounding swamps within the park hide the mysterious papyrus specialists the rarely seen African finfoot and white backed heron.
